Rethink the "open shelving" instead of regular box cabinets in a kitchen

What is with the "open shelf" design for replacing closed in cabinets in a kitchen. If you are a neat freak then I guess they are fine but if you are like me and really don't care how the inside of my cabinets are arranged this design style is not for you. Besides that kitchens are a haven for dust and grease it attaches to everything and I don't want to send my free time or family time in the kitchen wiping off everything on these open shelves.
